RESOLUTION NO. RS2000-159

A resolution honoring the 1999 Montgomery Bell Academy Football Team.

WHEREAS, this superlative team has completed another successful season of football competition by marching through their opponents by posting an outstanding record of 12 wins and 0 losses; and

WHEREAS, advancing to the State finals on Saturday, November 20, 1999, at the Clinic Bowl, MBA captured the Division II-AA State Football Championship for their second consecutive State championship in a 49-15 win over Christian Brothers; and

WHEREAS, Montgomery Bell Academy Football Team was led by Head Coach Ricky Bowers who has been honored by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association as Head Coach of the Year in Division II-AA; and

WHEREAS, junior quaterback Ingle Martin was named Division II-AA Back of the Year, Tennessean All Mid-State and Coaches All State offensive player of the year and to the Tennessean Dream Team; and

WHEREAS, senior linebacker Tate Rich was named Division II-AA Lineman of the Year, an honor given to the player who exemplifies skill and superior physical ability at the defense position; and

WHEREAS, seniors Tate Rich, Jonas Rodriguez, Mark McDonald, Chris Camp, James Pitman, Sean Holland, Clark Lea, Dominick Smith, Andrew Ellis, Barton Simmons and Carlton Stewart along with junior Ingle Martin were named Tennessee Sports Writers Association All State Football; and

WHEREAS, this magnificent team performed with precision during the season and earned its well deserved reputation for high standards of athletic achievement, the quality of its play, and the stiff competition which it presented its opponents; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council honor the 1999 Montgomery Bell Academy Football Team and coaches for their outstanding season.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as honoring the 1999 Montgomery Bell Academy Football Team.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is hereby directed to prepare a certificate to be presented to Head Coach Ricky Bowers on behalf of the Montgomery Bell Academy Football Team.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
