RESOLUTION NO. RS2000-153

A resolution honoring Miss Fannie Williams on her 107th birthday.

WHEREAS, on February 15, 2000, Miss Fannie Williams will celebrate her 107th birthday with beloved family and friends; and

WHEREAS, Miss Fannie Williams was born in February of 1893, and is a lifetime resident of the Woodbine Community, where she has quietly and tirelessly worked to make her community a better place; and

WHEREAS, throughout her lifetime Miss Williams has worked as a practical nurse, a nursemaid, cook, in a flower shop, and active in community and church affairs and considered the founder of the Woodbine Community Organizations; and

WHEREAS, some of her specific accomplishments include: 1940 organizing the Woodbine Needle and Art Club; 1955 founded the Woodbine Community Welfare Organization; and in 1979 was one of the organizers of the current Woodbine Community Organization; and

WHEREAS, she is well know, by local and state politicians, and has received many awards, proclamations and resolutions honoring her for service to the community, along with having the street which she lives on named "Fannie Williams Street"; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council honor Miss Fannie Williams not only on the occasion of her 107th birthday but for her endless community involvement.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing honoring Miss Fannie Williams on her 107th birthday.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a certificate in honor of Miss Fannie Williams.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
