RESOLUTION NO. RS2000-149
A resolution recognizing the Consortium on Disability.
WHEREAS, in early 1979, a diverse group of individuals, initiated by the Disability Information Office, began informally meeting to examine legislative issues pertinent to persons with disabilities; and
WHEREAS, the Consortium on Disability is an alliance of citizens with disabilities, families with members who have disabilities, professionals who work with people with disabilities, advocates who protect the rights of individuals with disabilities, and concerned citizens; and
WHEREAS, the Consortium on Disability has as its mission to create resources for individuals with disabilities and their families through education, information, and ADVOCACY; and
WHEREAS, the Consortium on Disability has as its purpose to be a vehicle by which members collectively work together to bring about change to ensure that needed resources and services are available for Nashvilles citizens with disabilities and their families; and
WHEREAS, the Consortium on Disability has drawn on the knowledge, resources, and vision of its membership in identifying disability-related issues and gaps in resources and services that impact the lives of persons with disabilities and their families; and
WHEREAS, the Consortium on Disability presently sees that a major concern of both the elderly and disabled communities is a desperate need to develop of a local system of Personal Care Assistants (PCAs) and Respite Care; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize the Consortium on Disability by its presence in our community through the active promotion of disability related issues.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Consortium on Disability.
SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a certificate recognizing the Consortium on Disability.
SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
