RESOLUTION NO. RS2000-138

A resolution requesting the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly to introduce and have adopted legislation that would increase the penalty for violating laws relating to the unlawful possession and sale of firearms.

Whereas, the basic penalty for unlawful or sale of firearms in the State of Tennessee is under Class E felony category which provides for prison sentences for one to six years and for fines up to $3,000.00; and

Whereas, by increasing the penalty for violating the law for the possession and unlawful sale of firemans it is possible that there would be a reduction in the number of these offenses.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly to introduce and have adopted legislation that would increase the penalty for violating laws relating to the unlawful possession and sale of firearms.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is requested to send a certified copy of this Resolution to the members of the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
