RESOLUTION NO. RS2000-134

A resolution requesting the State Department of Human Services to promptly resolve the issues in the collection and disbursement of child support payments by private contractors.

WHEREAS, the State Department of Human Services contracts with Maximus and Tear Technology to receive and disburse all child support payments to custodial parents of minor children; and

WHEREAS, numerous persons who are recipients of such child support payments are not receiving payments, although persons required to make such child support payments have made their payments to the individual private contractors; and

WHEREAS, it is vital to the health, safety and welfare of minor children that child support payments due to custodial parents are promptly collected and disbursed to those parents.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the State Department of Human Services to promptly resolve the issues in the collection and disbursement of child support payments by private contractors.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to the Commissioner of the State Department of Human Services.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.

AMENDMENT NO. 1

TO

RESOLUTION NO. RS2000-134

Mr. President:

I move to amend Resolution No. RS2000-134 by deleting the period at the end of Section 2 thereof and adding the following phrase:

"and to U.S. Congressman Bob Clement."
