RESOLUTION NO. RS2000-131

A resolution honoring the Tennessee Titans.

WHEREAS, the Tennessee Titans National Football League team has enjoyed unprecedented franchise success in the 1999-2000 season; and

WHEREAS, the Titans defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars on January 23, 2000, to win the Championship of the American Football Conference; and

WHEREAS, the Titans Conference Championship was the first in history for the franchise; and

WHEREAS, on January 30, 2000, the Titans played in Super Bowl XXXIV in Atlanta, Georgia marking the first appearance for the franchise, which was one of the original teams in the American Football League; and

WHEREAS, the Titans ended this season with a record of 16-4, including playoff victories over the Buffalo Bills and the Indianapolis Colts, as well as the Jacksonville Jaguars, which victory was the third of the year over the division champions; and

WHEREAS, the Titans were undefeated at home in the new, beautiful, sold out Adelphia Coliseum with a perfect record of 8-0 in the regular season and one victory in the playoffs; and

WHEREAS, four members of the Titans were selected to play in the Pro Bowl; Eddie George, Jevon Kearse, Bruce Matthews, and Frank Wycheck; and

WHEREAS, the Titans and their success have brought unprecedented unity to the Nashville community with terrific fan support from people regardless of age, race, sex, creed, national origin, or economic status; and

WHEREAS, owner Bud Adams is to be commended for changing the name of the franchise from the Oilers to the Titans and for making the commitment to provide Nashville and all of Tennessee with a competitive and winning organization; and

WHEREAS, Coach Jeff Fisher, together with his assistant coaches, is to be commended for providing the leadership and direction for this most successful season; and

WHEREAS, all of the team members of the Titans are to be commended for their outstanding effort and performance during this successful season both on and off the football field; and

WHEREAS, the Music City Miracle is not only the exciting victory of the Buffalo Bills but this entire season.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as honoring the Tennessee Titans.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a printed scroll for the Tennessee Titans, Bud Adams, and Jeff Fisher.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
