RESOLUTION NO. RS2000-125

A resolution requesting the Metropolitan Traffic and Parking Commission to provide 30 minutes of free parking in all Metro-owned lots and garages.

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority has instituted a program that provides for 30 minutes of free parking at the airport if a person parks for only 30 minutes or less; and

WHEREAS, numerous citizens who use these facilities do use these parking facilities for a very short time period.

WHEREAS, it would improve relations and provide for quicker turnover in Metro-owned parking lots and garages if a similar program were adopted that allows free parking if parking in those facilities were limited to 30 minutes or less; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Metro Traffic and Parking Commission to provide 30 minutes or less of free parking in all Metro-owned lots and garages.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to the members of the Traffic and Parking Commission.

SECTION 3. That the Traffic and Parking Commission is further requested to inform The Metropolitan Council of the feasibility and/or the actions taken in compliance with the request contained in Section 1 thereof, not later than sixty (60) days after the adoption of this Resolution.

SECTION 4. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.

AMENDMENT NO. 1

TO

RESOLUTION NO. RS2000-125


Mr. President:

I move to amend Resolution No. RS2000-125 by amending Section 1 by deleting it in its entirety and substituting in lieu thereof the following new Section 1:


"Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Metropolitan Traffic and Parking Commission to provide free parking in all Metro-owned parking lots and garages if a person parks for only 30 minutes or less."
