RESOLUTION NO. RS2000-113

A resolution requesting the Davidson County delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly to enact legislation providing that labor agreements entered into by the Metropolitan Government with employee representative bargaining groups be binding on the Metropolitan Government.

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Metropolitan Government to encourage harmonious labor agreements between its employees and the Metropolitan Government; and

WHEREAS, since 1971 Metropolitan Government has engaged in collective bargaining with employee representative groups; and

WHEREAS, such collective bargaining agreements have fostered positive labor relations between the Metropolitan Government and its employees; and

WHEREAS, Metropolitan Government and the employee representative organizations have entered into Memorandums of Understanding which memorialize the agreements by the parties; and

WHEREAS, the enforceability of these Memorandum of Understanding is essential to providing for the positive employee relations with the Metropolitan Government and its employees.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly is hereby requested to introduce and have enacted the necessary legislation that would make binding on the parties the Memorandum of Understanding entered into between the Metropolitan Government and its various employee representative organizations, provided such law shall in no way conflict with, amend or supersede any provision of the Charter of the Metropolitan Government.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to the members of the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
