RESOLUTION NO. RS2000-111

A resolution requesting the Metropolitan Board of Public Education to advise the Metropolitan Council of the necessary capital costs, programming improvements, and operating costs necessary to achieve an A+ grade on the annual Chamber of Commerce Education Report Card.

WHEREAS, each year the Chamber of Commerce has a committee which rates the Metropolitan Board of Public Education by giving it a grade similar to grades used in assessing academic achievement; and

WHEREAS, this year the Metropolitan Board of Public Education received a B- grade in its educational achievements and performance; and

WHEREAS, it should be the goal of the Metropolitan Government to achieve and maintain a public education system which would obtain an A+ grade.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby requests that the Metropolitan Board of Public Education provide to the Metro Council a report which would set forth the necessary capital improvements, programming improvements, and operating improvements, together with the costs of each that would be necessary to achieve an A+ rating for the Metropolitan public education system. The Metropolitan board of Public Education is further requested to consult with and receive input from the Metropolitan Nashville Education Association, the Metropolitan Public Schools Foundation, and the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce in the development of this report.

SECTION 2. That the Metropolitan Board of Public Education is further requested to inform The Metropolitan Council of the feasibility and/or the actions taken in compliance with the request contained in Section 1 hereof, not later than sixty (60) days after the adoption of this Resolution.

SECTION 3. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to the Director of Schools and to the members of the Metropolitan Board of Public Education.

SECTION 4. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its passage, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
