RESOLUTION NO. RS2000-107
A resolution honoring the 1999 Tennessee State University "Tigers" Football Team.
WHEREAS, the Tennessee State University "Tigers" football team completed the regular season with an impressive record of eleven wins and no losses; and
WHEREAS, the Tigers marched through their opponents this season, advancing to the playoffs for their second consecutive year, as a fitting finale to their remarkable 1999 campaign; and
WHEREAS, TSU has won 19 straight regular-season games and is the only unbeaten team in Division I-AA going into the playoffs; and
WHEREAS, on Saturday, November 13, 1999, at Adelphia Coliseum, the Tennessee State University "Tigers" won their second consecutive Ohio Valley Conference title by beating Murray State; and
WHEREAS, on Monday, November 15, 1999, Tennessee State University football team became the No. 1-ranked team in Division I-AA; and
WHEREAS, the phenomenal performance of the team as it took care of business is a clear indication of the outstanding athletic ability, the dedication and hard work, and the unity of purpose and spirit of each member of the team, their superb offensive and defensive talents, and the astute direction of Head Coach L.C. Cole; and
WHEREAS, this magnificent team performed with precision during the season and earned its well deserved reputation for high standards of athletic achievement, the quality of its play, and the stiff competition which it presented its opponents; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council honor Head Coach L.C. Cole and the Tennessee State University "Tigers" football team for their outstanding season and achievements in 1999.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as honoring the 1999 Tennessee State University "Tigers" Football Team.
SECTION 2. That the Metropolitan Council Staff Office is hereby directed to prepare a certificate to be presented to Head Coach L.C. Cole on behalf of the Tennessee State University Football Team.
SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
