SUBSTITUTE RESOLUTION NO. SR99-1457

A substitute resolution requesting the Mayor to provide funding in the 1999-2000 operating budget for warning sirens within high-density areas throughout the county with emphasis placed on downtown, parks and highly populated areas.

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council has previously asked the Mayor and the Office of Emergency Management to determine the feasibility of installing a warning siren system to warn of impending disasters such as tornadoes, ice storms, and other weather disasters within the area of the Metropolitan Government; and

WHEREAS, it has been reported to the Council that it is not feasible to install such a system to provide such a program in the area of the Metropolitan Government due to cost and geographic factors; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that such a siren warning system be established within high-density areas throughout the county with emphasis placed on downtown, parks and highly populated areas.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1 That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Mayor to provide funding in the 1999-2000 operating budget for installation of warning sirens within high-density areas throughout the county with emphasis placed on downtown, parks and highly populated areas. The Mayor's Office and the Emergency Response Committee will determine the areas.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to the Mayor and the Emergency Response Committee.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
