SUBSTITUTE RESOLUTION NO. SR98-1358

 A resolution requesting the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce to encourage volunteer efforts in the Nashville public school system.

WHEREAS, the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce is an appropriate agency to assist in the coordination of volunteer efforts in the various public schools of the Metropolitan Board of Public Education; and

WHEREAS, this need and use of volunteers is an integral part of the new plan adopted by the Board of Education that brought about an end to court ordered bussing ; and

WHEREAS, the Chamber of Commerce has urged the adoption of this plan and has resources available to serve in the capacity of volunteer coordinator.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce to encourage volunteer efforts in the public schools of the Board of Education.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to the Executive Director and to the President of the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce.

SECTION 3. That the Executive Director and the President of the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce are further requested to inform The Metropolitan Council of the feasibility and/or the actions taken in compliance with the request contained in Section 1 hereof, not later than sixty (60) days after the adoption of this Resolution.

SECTION 4. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
