RESOLUTION NO. R99-1664

A resolution recognizing Police Officer John Baugher, Police Officer Diana McCoy, Police Lieutenant Melvin Brown, and Firefighter Mike Erdelyan for their outstanding competition in the 1999 World Police & Fire Games.

WHEREAS, the 1999 World Police & Fire Games were held June 16-24, 1999, in Stockholm, Sweden; and

WHEREAS, over 12,000 police officers, firefighters, customs officials, and prison officials competed in 68 different sports in the World Games; and

WHEREAS, four employees of the Metropolitan Government competed in the World Games and won medals in their respective sport; and

WHEREAS, Police Officer II John Baugher won 4th Place and received a Bronze Medal in the 300 Meter Modified International Rifles - Highpower competition; and

WHEREAS, Police Officer II Diana McCoy won 4th Place and received a Bronze Medal in the Darts competition; and

WHEREAS, Police Lieutenant Melvin Brown won 1st Place and received a Gold Medal in the Karate competition; and

WHEREAS, Firefighter Mike Erdelyan won 4th Place and received a Bronze Medal in the Rifle – Small Bore competition; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize and honor Police Officer John Baugher, Police Officer Diana McCoy, Police Lieutenant Melvin Brown, and Firefighter Mike Erdelyan for their excellence and for bringing honor and distinction to Nashville and Davidson County with their outstanding competition in the 1999 World Police & Fire Games.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as honoring Police Officer John Baugher, Police Officer Diana McCoy, Police Lieutenant Melvin Brown, and Firefighter Mike Erdelyan for their outstanding competition in the 1999 World Police & Fire Games held June 16-24, 1999, in Stockholm, Sweden.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff is requested to prepare a certificate to be presented to Police Officer John Baugher, Police Officer Diana McCoy, Police Lieutenant Melvin Brown, and Firefighter Mike Erdelyan.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its passage, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
