RESOLUTION NO. R99-1663

A resolution honoring former Councilman Charles Tygard for his role in helping create the Greenways system.

WHEREAS, former Member of Council Charles Tygard was instrumental in helping propose and develop the creation of a Greenways system; and

WHEREAS, over the past several years the Greenways program has expanded to a county-wide plan connecting areas of Greenways along our rivers, including the downtown area, which provide open space for hiking, walking, and other leisure activities; and

WHEREAS, large parcels of property have been donated and acquired by the Metropolitan Government as open green space area to preserve the existing forests, fields, and natural areas to maintain green park areas throughout the city; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize former Councilman Charles Tygard for his instrumental role in the creation of the Greenways program, which has been a great asset to the Metropolitan Government.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as honoring former Councilman Charles Tygard for his role in helping create the Greenways system.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a certificate to be presented to Councilman Charles Tygard.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its passage, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
