RESOLUTION NO. R99-1662
A resolution honoring James L. Murphy III upon his retirement from service with the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County.
Whereas, with the approval of the appointment of new Director of Law, James L. Murphy III will retire from the Metropolitan Department of Law of the Metropolitan Government after eighteen years of faithful and dedicated service; and
Whereas, Mr. Murphys knowledge and expertise in all facets of municipal law is well known throughout the Metropolitan Government; and
Whereas, for the past eighteen years Mr. Murphy has provided the Metropolitan Government with outstanding legal representation; and
Whereas, before coming to work for Metro Government as a Staff Attorney in 1981, Mr. Murphy attended the University of Tennessee where he received both a B. A. degree in Political Science and a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Tennessee; and
Whereas, during his Metro Government career, Mr. Murphy first held the position of Metropolitan Attorney, was promoted to the position of the Associate Director of Law and, was then appointed by Mayor Phil Bredesen to be the Director of Law and was sworn as the Director of Law on July 7, 1993; and
Whereas, Mr. Murphys experience, integrity, knowledge, and dedication as he worked to protect the welfare of Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County will be sorely missed by the Department of Law and the entire Metropolitan Government; and
Whereas, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council honor Mr. Jim Murphy upon his retirement from service with the Metropolitan Government.
Now therefore, be it resolved by the council of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County:
Section 1: That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as honoring Mr. James L. Murphy III upon the completion of eighteen years of dedicated service to the Metropolitan Government.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff is directed to prepare a printed scroll to be presented to Mr. Jim Murphy.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its passage, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.Sponsored By: Charles Fentress
