RESOLUTION NO. R99-1612

A resolution requesting the Metropolitan Public Library Board to install filters on Internet access to screen out pornographic materials.

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Public Library Board and its various library facilities provide Internet access for the users of the libraries; and

WHEREAS, children have the ability to access pornographic materials on these Metropolitan Government computers via the Internet; and

WHEREAS, it is possible to install screening programs that would limit access to pornographic materials; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Public Library Board have such screening programs installed to protect our children from pornographic materials.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Public Library Board to install filters on Internet access to screen out pornographic materials.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to each member of the Public Library Board and to the Director of Libraries.

SECTION 3. That the Public Library Board is further requested to inform The Metropolitan Council of the feasibility and/or the actions taken in compliance with the request contained in Section 1 hereof, not later than sixty (60) days after the adoption of this Resolution.

SECTION 4. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.

AMENDMENT NO. 1

TO

RESOLUTION NO. R99-1612

Mr. President:

I move to amend Resolution No. R99-1612 by deleting the phrase "install filters" wherein it appears in the Caption, in fourth recital clause, and in SECTION 1 thereof, and substituting in lieu thereof the phrase "to consider installing filters".
