RESOLUTION NO. R99-1545

A resolution recognizing "National Public Works Week", May 16-22, 1999.

Whereas, public works services provided in our community are an integral part of our citizen's everyday lives; and

Whereas, pursuant to a Joint Resolution of the United States Congress, President John F. Kennedy proclaimed National Public Works Week in 1962; and

Whereas, President Kennedy stated in his proclamation that "it is in the public interest for the citizens and civic leaders of this country to gain knowledge of and to maintain a progressive interest in the public works needs and programs of their respective communities"; and,

Whereas, the health, safety, and comfort of this community greatly depend on Public Works facilities and services; and,

Whereas, the efficiency of the qualified and dedicated personnel who staff public works departments is materially influenced by the people's attitude and understanding of the importance of the work they perform; and,

Whereas, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize the contributions which public works employees make every day to our health, safety, comfort, and quality of life; and,

Whereas, May 16-22, 1999, has been designated "National Public Works Week";

Now, therefore, be it resolved by the Council of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville of Davidson County:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council goes on record as recognizing May 16-22, 1999, as "National Public Works Week".

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff is requested to prepare a certificate in honor of "National Public Works Week".

Section 3. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
