RESOLUTION NO. R99-1534

A resolution recognizing McMurray Middle School Student Brandi Sturm on winning First Runner-Up from Davidson County in The Tennessean 1999 Regional Spelling Bee.

WHEREAS, The Tennessean Newspaper recently sponsored the 1999 Regional Spelling Bee for students throughout this region of the state; and

WHEREAS, Brandi Sturm, an 8th Grader at McMurray Middle School, won First Runner-Up in the Regional competition; and

WHEREAS, Brandi is the daughter of Timothy and Karen Sturm, and as First Runner-Up her prizes included a Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary (10th Edition), Compton’s Deluxe Interactive Encyclopedia (CD-ROM), and two T-shirts; and

WHEREAS, through participation in the Regional Spelling Bee, the students gained self-confidence, as well as valuable communication skills which will be used as they continue their education and throughout their lives; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Brandi Sturm for this outstanding accomplishment.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Brandi Sturm of McMurray Middle School on winning First Runner-Up from Davidson County in The Tennessean 1999 Regional Spelling Bee.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a certificate to be presented to Brandi Sturm.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
