RESOLUTION NO. R99- 1528

A resolution honoring DeWitt Ezell upon his retirement from BellSouth Corporation.

WHEREAS, Mr. DeWitt Ezell recently completed 38 years of service as President of BellSouth Corporation, the state's largest telecommunications provider; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Ezell is a graduate of Tennessee Tech and began his career with BellSouth in May 1962 in Nashville; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Ezell held the position of engineering, regulatory and public relations in Tennessee and Birmingham; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Ezell is well-known for his community leadership focusing on economic development and youth education programs; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Ezell has received numerous honors and awards from the community, including the 1999 Free Enterprise Award, and in 1997 received the Outstanding Nashvillian award presented by the Kiwanis Club; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council extends to DeWitt Ezell best wishes for continued good health, prosperity, and happiness in the years to come; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council honor DeWitt Ezell for his outstanding service and his numerous accomplishments for the area of Nashville and Davidson County.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council go on record as honoring DeWitt Ezell on his retirement from BellSouth Corporation.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is requested to prepare a printed scroll to be presented to DeWitt Ezell.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its passage, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
