RESOLUTION NO. R99-1524
A resolution honoring the late John P. McGrath, Jr.
WHEREAS, the Nashville community was saddened by the death of John P. McGrath, Jr., owner of a longtime public relations firm for Nashville Electric Service; and
WHEREAS, Mr. McGrath was employed with the Metro Action Commission and served as a staff member in the Mayor's office in the early 1970's under Mayor Beverly Briley; and
WHEREAS, Mr. McGrath was known to many as the Mayor of the Newsom's Mill area; and
WHEREAS, Mr. McGrath was a graduate of Father Ryan High School and St. Bernard College in Cullman, Alabama; and
WHEREAS, Mr. McGrath was associated with several business and civic organizations in Nashville, including the Public Relations Society of America, Society of Marketing Executives, National Association of Home Builders, Hooligans a social group; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council honor Mr. McGrath and recognize him for his outstanding and dedicated service to the citizens of Nashville.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as honoring the late Mr. John P. McGrath, Jr. for his contributions to the Nashville community.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is requested to prepare a certificate to be presented to the family of John P. McGrath, Jr.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its passage, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
