RESOLUTION NO. R99-1451

A resolution recognizing Granbery Elementary School Student Chelsea Harris on winning 3rd Place in the Davidson County 4-H Public Speaking Contest.

WHEREAS, the Davidson County Agricultural Extension Service Program recently sponsored the 1999 Davidson County 4-H Public Speaking Contest which was open to all local 4-H Club members; and

WHEREAS, In November 1998, the Extension 4-H Agents presented educational programs to 4-H clubs on how to plan, prepare and present a speech to all 4-H Club members in Davidson County; and

WHEREAS, in January 1999, 2,300 4-H members presented speeches during their local 4-H meetings which they had written, with winners selected from each 4-H Club, and those winners were invited to present their speeches again in county competition; and

WHEREAS, the contest had great involvement and participation, as a total of 204 4-H members from 26 schools in Davidson County participated in the county contest; and

WHEREAS, through participation in the 4-H Public Speaking Program, the 4-H members gained self-confidence, as well as valuable communication skills which will be used as they continue their education and throughout their lives; and

WHEREAS, 4-H Club member Chelsea Harris, a 4th Grader at Granbery Elementary School, won 3rd Place in the county competition; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Chelsea Harris for this outstanding accomplishment.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as recognizing 4-H Club member Chelsea Harris of Granbery Elementary School on winning 3rd Place in the Davidson County 4-H Public Speaking Contest.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a certificate to be presented to Chelsea Harris.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
