RESOLUTION NO. R99-1426

A resolution requesting the Metropolitan Board of Public Education to reinstate the Cooperative Education Program.

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan public school system previously has operated a Cooperative Education Program that allows juniors and seniors to attend one-half day classroom study work and to work the remaining one-half day in an appropriate work experience-related position; and

WHEREAS, this program allows students to gain exposure in the working world and allows them to put into practice on a daily basis the knowledge and skills being gained in school; and

WHEREAS, such a program was very successful in allowing students to choose careers and to demonstrate job skills; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Cooperative Education Program be reinstated to benefit our students.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Metropolitan Board of Public Education to reinstate the Cooperative Education Program.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to the Director of Schools and to each member of the Metropolitan Board of Public Education.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
