RESOLUTION NO. R99-1373

 A resolution commending Police Officer Robert Anthony Bristol for his outstanding service to the Metropolitan Government.

WHEREAS, Officer Robert Anthony Bristol has been a member of the Metropolitan Police Department since May 16, 1987, and is presently assigned to the Vehicle Impound Section; and

WHEREAS, Officer Bristol is employed as a Security Guard at Hillwood Plaza NationsBank in West Nashville, and on Friday, November 6, 1998, an armed, masked gunman entered the bank with gun in hand, endangering the employees and customers of the bank; and

WHEREAS, the gunman engaged in a scuffle with Officer Bristol, and then began running out of the bank, and fearful for the safety of nearby citizens, Officer Bristol fired on the suspect, killing him; and

WHEREAS, a second suspect was also shot in the parking lot by other officers while attempting to flee; and

WHEREAS, Officer Bristol sustained a bullet below his right shoulder blade, requiring him to spend the night in the hospital, but he is now recovering and eager to return to work at the Police Department; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council commend Officer Robert Anthony Bristol for his outstanding service to the citizens of Nashville and Davidson County.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as commending Police Officer Robert Anthony Bristol for his outstanding service to the citizens of Nashville and Davidson County.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a certificate to be presented to Office Robert Anthony Bristol.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
