RESOLUTION NO. R98-995

A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE DAVIDSON COUNTY DELEGATION TO THE TENNESSEE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO HAVE ADOPTED LEGISLATION THAT WOULD INCREASE PAY TO JURORS AND EXPEDITE PAYMENT TO JURORS.

WHEREAS, service on juries in the trial courts is an integral part of the justice system and causes some hardship to citizens who do serve; and

WHEREAS, the total economic burden of jury service should not be borne by individual jurors; and

WHEREAS, in order to alleviate some of the economic burden, it is appropriate to increase the pay to jurors for their service and, further, to increase the payment system to ensure that jurors are compensated timely and not subject to delay of payment for jury service.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly to enact legislation that would increase pay for jurors and expedite payment to jurors.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to each member of the Davidson County Delegation.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its passage, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
