RESOLUTION NO. R98-991

A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE DAVIDSON COUNTY DELEGATION TO THE TENNESSEE STATE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO INTRODUCE AND HAVE ADOPTED LEGISLATION CLARIFYING THE AUTHORITY OF THE METROPOLITAN DEVELOPMENT HOUSING AGENCY RELATIVE TO IMPLEMENTING APPROVED REDEVELOPMENT PLANS WITHIN BLIGHTED AREAS.

WHEREAS, The Metropolitan Council has approved certain redevelopment plans in and around the central business district authorizing the Metropolitan Development Housing Agency (MDHA) to undertake certain improvements; and

WHEREAS, the statutory provisions governing the powers of housing authorities within blighted areas need to be clarified to specifically include improvements such as environmental remediation, the construction or installation of parks, public playgrounds, pedestrian ways, parking garages and other improvements that are designated within an approved redevelopment plan; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council desires that the necessary amendment be made to state law to clarify the authority of MDHA to undertake needed improvements pursuant to an approved redevelopment plan.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee State General Assembly to have introduced and adopted legislation that would clarify the powers of the Metropolitan Development Housing Agency to undertake improvements such as environmental remediation, the construction or installation of parks, public playgrounds, pedestrian ways, parking garages and other improvements that are designated within an approved redevelopment plan.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to each member of the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee State General Assembly.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
