RESOLUTION NO. R98-1304

A resolution welcoming the Nashville Noise to the City of Nashville.

WHEREAS, the Nashville Noise, an American Basketball League women’s professional team, will begin its inaugural season November 6, 1998; and

WHEREAS, this additional professional sport team will play at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium; and

WHEREAS, the first home game for the Noise will be November 7, 1998, against the Quest; and

WHEREAS, the addition of the Nashville Noise to the professional sports community will supplement and enhance Nashville as the home for exciting major league sporting teams and events, including the Tennessee Oilers, Nashville Predators, Nashville Kats, Sarah Lee LPGA Golf Tournament, and the BellSouth at Opryland Senior PGA Golf Tournament; and

WHEREAS, this new professional basketball team will include team members who have played at the University of Tennessee, at Vanderbilt University, and are Tennessee natives; and

WHEREAS, the American Basketball League provides exciting, wholesome entertainment together with appropriate role models for the children of Nashville; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council welcome the Nashville Noise to Nashville and express its support and best wishes for the greatest success.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as welcoming the Nashville Noise to Nashville, and expressing its support and best wishes for a successful team and franchise.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to the Nashville Noise.

SECTION 3. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare certificates to be presented to Coach Candi Harvey, Assistant Coach Shell Robinson, and the Nashville Noise team members: Lauretta Freeman, Vicki Hall, Tracy Henderson, Na’Sheema Hillmon, Joy Holes, Venus Lacy, Michelle Marciniak, Jacque Nero, Saudia Roundtree, Falisha Wright.

SECTION 4. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
