RESOLUTION NO. R98-1271

 A resolution in support of Thursday, October 8, 1998, as National Day of Concern About Young People and Gun Violence, and declaring the week of October 4, 1998, as National "Keep Guns Out of Schools" Week.

 WHEREAS, safe communities, safe homes, and safe schools are essential to the health and growth of Nashville and Davidson County; and

WHEREAS, our society is becoming increasingly violent, and violence in our society affects all school children; and

WHEREAS, all children are entitled to expect a safe and secure environment in which to learn; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record in support of the national "Keep Guns Out Of Schools" Campaign sponsored by The Covenant Association, Inc., and The Interdenominational Ministers Fellowship, in partnership with Metro Schools; and

WHEREAS, furthermore, as the governing body of the citizens of this great city, we go on record as supporting the effort to keep guns out of schools; and

WHEREAS, furthermore, the Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record in support of the National Day of Concern About Young People and Gun Violence on Thursday, October 8, 1998.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That The Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record in support of Thursday, October 8, 1998, as National Day of Concern About Young People And Gun Violence, and furthermore declares the week of October 4, 1998, as "Keep Guns Out Of Schools" Week.

SECTION 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
