A resolution approving an amendment to a grant contract with the United States Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration Unit, approving matching funds for the grant amendment, and authorizing the Mayor to execute said amendment.

Whereas, by Ordinance O96-536 the Metropolitan Council approved a grant contract with the United States Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration Unit, to assist in urban planning and to provide assistance to a Special Impact Area; and,

Whereas, the Greater Nashville regional Council agreed to provide a portion of the matching funds required for the original grant and said matching funds were approved in Ordinance O96-536; and,

Whereas, the United States Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration, has authorized an amendment to said grant contract, whereby additional funding in the amount of eighty thousand dollars ($80,000.00) will be provided for preparation of business development strategies for the Special Impact Area; and,

Whereas, the grant amendment includes a matching fund requirement of forty thousand dollars ($40,000.00); and,

Whereas, the Mayor’s Office of Economic and Community Development will provide matching funds for the grant amendment in the amount of twenty five thousand dollars ($25,000.00); and,

Whereas, the Greater Nashville Regional Council has agreed to provide fifteen thousand dollars ($15,000.00) as a match for the grant amendment by letter dated October 8, 1997, a copy of which is attached hereto; and,

Whereas, it is to the benefit of the citizens of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County that the grant amendment be executed;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the amendment to the grant contract between The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County and the United States Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration Unit, a copy of which amendment is attached hereto, is hereby approved and the Metropolitan Mayor is hereby authorized to execute said amendment.

Section 2. That an amount not to exceed twenty five thousand dollars ($25,000.00) be provided from the operating budget of the Mayor’s Office of Economic Development for the purpose of providing the Metropolitan Government’s share of matching funds for the grant amendment.

Section 3. That the Greater Nashville Regional Council will provide matching funds for the grant amendment in an amount not to exceed fifteen thousand dollars ($15,000.00).

Section 4. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
