RESOLUTION NO. R98-1218

A RESOLUTION HONORING ED OWENS UPON HIS RETIREMENT FROM SERVICE WITH THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT.

WHEREAS, on September 10, 1998, Edward C. Owens will retire from the Metropolitan Planning Commission of the Metropolitan Government after eighteen years of faithful and dedicated service; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Owens’ knowledge and expertise in all facets of city planning is well known throughout the Metropolitan Government, as his input was vital to the planning and implementation process to amend Metro’s comprehensive zoning text; and

WHEREAS, before coming to work for Metro Government as a Senior Community Planner in 1980, Mr. Owens attended the Summer Study Program at England’s Oxford University; he received a B. S. degree in Architecture from Ohio State University; and he received a Master’s degree in City and Regional Planning from Ohio State University; and

WHEREAS, upon completion of his education, Mr. Owens undertook an independent overland journey around the world, traveling through 29 countries from Great Britain to Japan, utilizing only local transportation; and

WHEREAS, during his Metro Government career, Mr. Owens held the positions of Community Planner I, Community Planner II, Principal Planner – Current Planning & Design, and Planning Division Manager – Current Planning & Design; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Owens’ experience, knowledge, and dedication for the welfare of Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County will be sorely missed by the Planning Commission and the entire Metropolitan Government; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council honor Mr. Ed Owens upon his retirement from service with the Metropolitan Government.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That The Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as honoring Mr. Ed Owens upon the completion of eighteen years of dedicated service to the Metropolitan Government.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff is directed to prepare a printed scroll to be presented to Mr. Ed Owens.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its passage, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
