RESOLUTION NO. R98-1157

A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE OWNERS AND PROPOSED DEVELOPERS OF THE JACKSONIAN APARTMENTS TO EXPLORE ALL REASONABLE OPPORTUNITIES AND ALTERNATIVES FOR USE OF THE BUILDING PRIOR TO THE DEMOLITION OF THE BUILDING.

WHEREAS, the Jacksonian Apartments located at corner of West End and 31st Avenues is an historic structure which deserves to be preserved; and

WHEREAS, such structures once removed cannot be replaced and the preservation of such historic structures should be accomplished if at all economically feasible; and

WHEREAS, the present owners, the heirs of the late John Cobb, have contracted to sell the Jacksonian Apartments to Russ Morris, a developer, who proposes to construct an urban drugstore on the site for Walgreen Drug Stores; and

WHEREAS, every effort should be made to keep this historic structure and every reasonable opportunity and alternative for use of this building should be explored prior to the demolition of the building; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan County Council desires that every effort be made to preserve the structure if possible.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan County Council hereby requests the owners and proposed developers of the Jacksonian Apartments to explore all reasonable opportunities and alternatives for use of the building prior to the demolition of the building.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to Mr. Russ Morris, of Eakin & Smith Real Estate, and to Mr. Trey Rochford and Mr. John T. Rochford, as representatives of the heirs of the late John Cobb.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
