ADOPTED 05/19/1998

WHEREAS, there is some concern in the community that although the area of Davidson County was fortunate with only one loss of life from the tornado that occurred on April 16, 1998, that an alarm or siren system that warns residents of impending dangerous weather conditions might have provided more adequate warning to the community; and

WHEREAS, other communities have apparently utilized such alarm and siren devices effectively; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Mayor and the Office of Emergency Management conduct a study to determine if it is feasible and appropriate to erect such alarm or siren devices to warn the public of potential adverse weather conditions.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Mayor and the Office of Emergency Management to consider the feasibility of erecting an alarm or siren system to warn residents of Davidson County of potential weather disasters.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to the Mayor and to the director of the Office of Emergency Management.

SECTION 3. That the Mayor and the director of the Office of Emergency Management are further requested to inform The Metropolitan Council of the feasibility and/or the actions taken in compliance with the request contained in Section One hereof, not later than ninety (90) days after the adoption of this Resolution.

SECTION 4. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its passage, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
