A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE U.S. IMMIGRATION AND NATURALIZATION
SERVICE TO CONTINUE ITS CRACK DOWN ON ILLEGAL ALIEN WORKERS
IN THE NASHVILLE AREA.
WHEREAS,
the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service conducted
a program called Operation "SouthPAW" (South Protect
American Workers) which was designed to crack down on illegal
alien workers in the State of Tennessee, especially in industrial
and construction industry jobs; and
WHEREAS,
the Metropolitan County Council on October 23, 1995,
adopted a resolution requesting that Operation SouthPAW be expanded
to include Nashville; and
WHEREAS,
sixty-five illegal alien workers were arrested on the
construction site of the new Nashville Arena; and
WHEREAS,
the Nashville area continues to have numerous illegal
alien workers in our community who have taken jobs from our own
citizens.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT
OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby
goes on record as requesting the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization
Service to continue its crack down on illegal alien workers in
the Nashville area.
SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send
a certified copy of this Resolution to Mr. Ron Kidd, Tennessee's
Immigration and Naturalization Service Supervisor, Memphis, Tennessee.
SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and
after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government
of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
