ORDINANCE BL2017-912

An ordinance amending Chapter 2.144 of the Metropolitan Code of Laws to require the Metropolitan Social Services Commission to open a Metro-operated facility at night to people in Nashville when temperatures in Nashville reach 32 degrees Fahrenheit (32° F) or below.

NOW, BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That Chapter 2.144 of the Metropolitan Code is hereby amended by adding the following language as an appropriately designated new section:

The Metropolitan Social Services Commission shall cause to be open a Metro-operated facility in Nashville to shelter any person in Nashville beginning at 7:00 pm until 7:00 am the following morning on any night in Nashville where temperatures are projected to reach 32 degrees Fahrenheit (32° F) or below as determined by the National Weather Service at any time during the hours of 7:00 pm to 7:00 am. Such facility shall be operated by Metro staff or Metro-contracted parties during those hours and is to be large enough to hold at least one hundred and fifty (150) people.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Ordinance to the Director of the Metropolitan Social Services Commission.

Section 3. This Ordinance shall take effect from and after its enactment, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
