ORDINANCE NO. BL2017-727
An ordinance amending Title 6, Section 6.72.170, concerning the display of taxicab permits.
WHEREAS, the Transportation Licensing Commission and its Director are charged with the licensing and registration of passenger vehicles for hire for the protection and the welfare of the public; and,
WHEREAS, taxicab drivers are issued a permit in the format approved by the Transportation Licensing Commission and its Director; and,
WHEREAS, the permit issued by the Transportation Licensing Commission contains driver identifiers including the name of the driver, the company the driver works for, the permit number, the permit expiration date and a photograph of the driver; and,
WHEREAS, the identifying information is placed on the permit to ensure the welfare and safety of the passengers; and,
WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the Director of the Transportation Licensing Commission that taxicab drivers are failing to display said permit.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That Title 6, Section 6.72.170 of the Metropolitan Code of Laws shall be amended by deleting it in its entirety and replacing it with the following: “Every driver to whom a permit is issued under this article shall have affixed to the interior of the vehicle for hire, in full view of the passengers at all times, the permit issued by the Transportation and Licensing Commission.”
Section 2. That any amendment to this ordinance may be approved by resolution of the Metropolitan Council.
Section 3. This ordinance shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
