ORDINANCE NO. BL2016-221

An ordinance amending Title 6 of the Metropolitan Code of Laws to eliminate Chapter 6.12 regulating dances and dance halls.

WHEREAS, Chapter 6.12 of the Metropolitan Code of Laws was enacted in 1969 to regulate dances and dancehalls and to otherwise establish a registration and permitting process therefore; and

WHEREAS, building and safety codes adopted within the Metropolitan Code of Laws are constantly evolving, as are societal norms and attitudes regarding dances and dance halls, to the point that Chapter 6.12 regulations have been rendered obsolete; and

WHEREAS, Chapter 6.12 has been amended only once within the past twenty years, pursuant to Ordinance No. O98-1474, and currently persists as an anachronism within the Metropolitan Code of Laws.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That Title 6 of the Metropolitan Code of Laws is hereby amended by deleting Chapter 6.12 in its entirety.

Section 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Ordinance to the Nashville Fire Department and to the Metropolitan Beer Permit Board, as well as the individual members of said Board.

Section 3. That this Ordinance shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
