ORDINANCE NO. BL2015-4

An ordinance approving an agreement between The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, by and through the Metropolitan Office of Family Safety, and the Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands, related to the distribution of funds granted by the State of Tennessee, to improve the criminal justice system by the STOP Violence Against Women Grant Program.

WHEREAS, the State of Tennessee, Department of Finance and Administration, awarded a grant in an amount not to exceed $225,000.00 to The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, to improve the criminal justice system by the STOP Violence Against Women Grant Program (STOP), which was accepted under Resolution No. RS2015-1588; and,

WHEREAS, the terms of the grant provide that the funds be sub-granted to the Legal Aid Society for the creation and supervision of a civil-legal advocate program, expansion of the Legal Aid Society’s current volunteer program, streamlining the client referral system, and making client eligibility determinations in a timely manner so as to allow for attorney contact prior to an order of protection hearing; and,

WHEREAS, it is to the benefit of the citizens of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County that this sub-grant agreement be approved.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the agreement between The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, by and through the Metropolitan Office of Family Safety, and the Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands, related to the distribution of funds granted by the State of Tennessee, to improve the criminal justice system by the STOP Violence Against Women Grant Program, a copy of which is attached hereto and incorporated herein, is hereby approved, and the Metropolitan Mayor is authorized to execute the same.

Section 2. That this ordinance shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
