ORDINANCE NO. BL2015-1151

An ordinance authorizing the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department to donate certain vests to the Armor of God Project, Inc., for refurbishment and distribution of the vests to under-funded law enforcement entities around the country and world.

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (“MNPD”) has 87 tactical vests, 73 soft body armor vests, and 820 soft body armor ballistic panels without carriers, that MNPD no longer uses due to the warranty having expired; and,

WHEREAS, if MNPD is able to donate the vests, the Metropolitan Government would not have to incur the cost of destroying the vests; and,

WHEREAS, the Armor of God Project, Inc., is an IRC Section 501(c)(3) non-profit entity. The Armor of God Project receives vests through donations, refurbishes the vests, and removes all serial numbers and indications of where the vests originated. Then the Armor of God Project distributes the refurbished vests around the country and world, including over 5,000 vests since 2009; and,

WHEREAS, it is to the benefit of the citizens of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County that the donation be authorized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department is hereby authorized to donate the expired vests to the Armor of God Project, Inc., for distribution of the vests to under-funded law enforcement entities around the country and world, as set forth in the attached Agreement, which is incorporated by reference.

Section 2. That this ordinance shall take effect from and after its final passage, the welfare of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
