ORDINANCE NO. BL2014-780
An ordinance naming the bridge over the South Harpeth River on Highway 96 at Old Harding Pike in honor of Lloyd Linton.
WHEREAS, Lloyd Linton has lived all of his 94 years on County Line Farm in the Linton community of southwestern Davidson County; and
WHEREAS, County Line Farm, which was founded in 1869 by Silas Linton and his wife, Katie Anderson Linton, is still owned and operated as a cattle farm by Lloyd Linton and his family; and
WHEREAS, Lloyd Linton served in the United States Army before, during, and after World War II, prior to returning home to County Line Farm; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Linton and his wife of almost 67 years, Frances Edmondson Linton, have operated County Line Farm throughout their married life together; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of Lloyd Linton’s lifelong commitment to preserving the farming way of life in Davidson County, it is fitting and proper that the bridge on Highway 96 over the South Harpeth River near Old Harding Pike be named in his honor; and
WHEREAS, Section 13.26.010 of the Metropolitan Code provides that no building or structure of the Metropolitan Government may be named except pursuant to an ordinance duly adopted by the Metropolitan County Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That the bridge over the South Harpeth River on Highway 96 near Old Harding Pike, as shown on the sketch attached hereto and incorporated herein as “Exhibit A”, is hereby named “Lloyd Linton Bridge”.
Section 2. That the Department of Public Works is directed to erect the proper signage designating this bridge on Highway 96 over the South Harpeth River “Lloyd Linton Bridge”.
Section 3. This Ordinance shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
