An Ordinance amending and restating Title 6, Chapter 6.20, Articles I and IV of the Metropolitan Code requiring electricians doing business within the area of the Metropolitan Government to be licensed, adding provisions regarding apprenticeship programs, and adding penalties and additional grounds for violations.

Amendment No. 1
To
Ordinance No. BL2013-570

Madam President:

I move to amend Ordinance No. BL2013-570 as follows:
1. By amending Section 1 by amending Code Section 6.20.040 by replacing the existing subsection B. with the following:
“ B. For the purpose of this code, every person engaged in electrical work, for which an electrical permit is required, within the area of jurisdiction of the metropolitan government, shall be ‘licensed’ by the metropolitan board of electrical examiners and appeals or ‘registered’ by the department of codes administration. Notwithstanding the foregoing to the contrary, for the purpose of this code, every person engaged in electrical work who is employed by a registered equipment contractor and performing electrical equipment installations under the supervision of a licensed electrical equipment installer need not be individually licensed as an electrician under this chapter.”

2. By amending Section 1 by amending Code Section 6.20.040 by deleting the phrase “has at least five (5) years’ experience in the classification applied for”, and substituting with the phrase “has at least five (5) years’ experience in the classification applied for or the classification immediately below the classification applied for”.

3. By amending Section 1 by deleting Code Section 6.20.121 – Continuing Education Requirements in its entirety.

4. By amending Section 2 by adding the following provision at the end thereof:

“The provisions of this ordinance shall become enforceable one hundred eighty (180) days following the date the ordinance is enacted.”

5. By renumbering Section 3 as Section 4, and by adding the following new Section 3:

“Section 3. The requirements and provisions of this ordinance shall not apply to any person employed as an electrician or engaged in the electrician business at the time of enactment of this ordinance that was not otherwise required to be licensed under Chapter 6.20 of the Metropolitan Code as it existed immediately prior to the time this ordinance was enacted.”
