ORDINANCE NO. BL2013-544

An ordinance amending Title 3 of the Metropolitan Code relative to retiree medical benefits.

WHEREAS, the Council of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County has adopted a system of employee benefits that includes pensions and medical benefits for retirees of the Metropolitan Government; and,

WHEREAS, the Study and Formulating Committee recommended in its March 22, 2012 Final Report that the contribution rate for retiree medical benefits be structured based on years of service; and,

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council adopted Ordinance BL2012-237, which implemented contribution rates for retiree medical benefits based on years of service for certain employees hired on or after January 1, 2013; and,

WHEREAS, a contribution rate for retiree medical benefits is needed for those members of the benefit system with less than ten years of credited service who are eligible for pensions and medical benefits.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That section 3.16.020(C)(3)(vii) of the Metropolitan Code is hereby amended by deleting the following language:

The metropolitan government shall contribute twenty-five percent of the contribution rate established for medical care benefits for a retired member with at least ten but less than fifteen years of credited employee service and the covered retired member shall contribute seventy-five percent of the contribution rate established for medical care benefits.

and substituting in lieu thereof the following language:

The metropolitan government shall contribute twenty-five percent of the contribution rate established for medical care benefits for a retired member with less than fifteen years of credited employee service and the covered retired member shall contribute seventy-five percent of the contribution rate established for medical care benefits.

Section 2. That this ordinance shall take effect from and after its final passage, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
