ORDINANCE NO. BL2013-501

An ordinance naming Fire Station No. 9 in honor of Robert “Bobby” Glenn Connelly.

WHEREAS, on February 28, 2013, Robert “Bobby” Glenn Connelly retired after 53 years of service with the Nashville Fire Department, making him the longest serving employee of the Metropolitan Government at the time of his retirement; and

WHEREAS, Bobby Connelly began his career with the Nashville Fire Department in November 1959, and moved through the ranks of Firefighter, Engineer, Captain, and ultimately District Chief; and

WHEREAS, during his 53-year tenure, Chief Connelly served under seven mayors and nine director chiefs; and

WHEREAS, Bobby Connelly began his career with the Fire Department at Station 13 in West Nashville, and throughout his career served in various capacities at several fire stations before returning to Station 9, “The Bottoms”, where he served until his retirement in February 2013; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that Chief Bobby Connelly be recognized for his outstanding public service with the Nashville Fire Department by naming Fire Station No. 9 in his honor.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That Fire Station No. 9, located at 601 Second Avenue South, is hereby named "Bobby Connelly Station".

Section 2. This Ordinance shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
