ORDINANCE NO. BL2013-480

An ordinance providing the honorary designation of “Pastor W.L. White Street” for a portion of Sweetbriar Avenue.

WHEREAS, Ordinance No. BL2012-262 amended Chapter 13.08 of the Metropolitan Code to permit the use of honorary street names and signs without amending the Official Street and Alley Acceptance and Maintenance Map for The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, and without requiring residents and businesses to change their address; and

WHEREAS, Pastor W.L. White served as pastor of Hicks Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church from his call in 1971 until his death in 2012; and

WHEREAS, Reverend White served the Hicks Tabernacle Church family, the Nashville Community, and the surrounding counties faithfully for over 41 years; and

WHEREAS, Pastor White was a friend to all and the embodiment of what is good, righteous, humble, and admirable, always finding time to serve, preach, teach, and lead while shouldering countless burdens with unfailing grace and faithfulness; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of the significant contribution Pastor White made to the neighborhood around the church, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council provide an honorary street name of “Pastor W.L. White Street” for Sweetbriar Avenue between 12th Avenue South and Belmont Boulevard.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That Sweetbriar Avenue between 12th Avenue South and Belmont Boulevard, all of which is more particularly described by lines, words and figures on the sketch which is attached hereto as Exhibit A and made a part of this Ordinance as though copied herein, is hereby given the honorary street name “Pastor W.L. White Street”.

Section 2. This honorary street designation shall not result in a change of street address for businesses or residents located on Sweetbriar Avenue.

Section 3. The Department of Public Works is hereby authorized and directed, upon the enactment and approval of this Ordinance, to install the appropriate signage designating this section of roadway as “Pastor W.L. White Street” in accordance with § 13.08.025 of the Metropolitan Code.

Section 4. This Ordinance shall take effect immediately after its passage, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
