ORDINANCE NO. BL2013-358

An ordinance approving an agreement by and between The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, by and through the Metropolitan Nashville Arts Commission, and the Americans for the Arts regarding each party’s responsibilities in relation to the Americans for the Arts 2014 Annual Convention and Pre-Conference in Nashville, Tennessee, and funding thereof, and authorizing the execution of the same.

WHEREAS, Americans for the Arts is the premier arts leadership and advocacy organization in the United States; and,

WHEREAS, each year thousands of arts leaders, artists and elected officials gather to discuss trends and best practices in the arts at the Americans for the Arts Annual Convention; and,

WHEREAS, Nashville is a national leader in arts education, public art, and arts grant-making; and has hereby been selected as the host city for the 2014 Americans for the Arts 2014 Annual Convention and Pre-Conference; and,

WHEREAS, this gathering will continue to support the growth of our creative economy and cultural tourism; and,

WHEREAS, it is to the benefit of the citizens of The Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County that this agreement be approved.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1: That the agreement between The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, acting by and through the Metropolitan Nashville Arts Commission, and the Americans for the Arts regarding each party’s responsibilities in relation to the Americans for the Arts 2014 Annual Convention and Pre-Conference in Nashville, TN, and funding thereof, a copy of which agreement is attached hereto and incorporated herein, is hereby approved and the Director of the Arts Commission is authorized to execute the same.

SECTION 2: That any amendments, renewals or extensions of the terms of the agreement shall be approved by Resolution of the Metropolitan Council.

SECTION 3: That this Ordinance shall take effect from and after its final passage, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
