ORDINANCE NO. BL2012-295

An ordinance amending Section 8.12.020 of the Metropolitan Code pertaining to the egg handling and dispersal plan for the keeping of chickens on school property.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. Section 8.12.020 of the Metropolitan Code is hereby amended by deleting subsection N.5 and substituting with the following new subsection N.5:

“5. The applicant must submit a written, signed plan that adequately addresses the handling, dispersal, and/or disposal of eggs produced by their domesticated hens. An adequate plan shall, at a minimum, address the following:
a) How and how quickly children will be required to wash their hands after they have touched the eggs; and
b) The cleansing of eggs and the arrangements for their refrigeration.”

Section 2. Section 8.12.020 of the Metropolitan Code is hereby amended by amending subsection N. by adding the following provision at the end thereof:

“7. No eggs shall be stored or kept within the school cafeteria or kitchen without the written permission of the school principal or Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools administration.”

Section 3. That this Ordinance shall take effect immediately after its passage, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
