ORDINANCE NO. BL2012-265

An ordinance naming the bridge on Georgia Avenue over Richland Creek in honor and memory of Audrey Baker.

WHEREAS, Mrs. Audrey Bogle Baker passed away on November 15, 2011, after a year-long courageous battle with cancer; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Baker was a fixture in West Nashville, serving as a longtime member of the St. Ann's Parish, Past President of the Ladies Auxiliary, member of the Ladies Democratic Party, and the proprietor of Audrey's Drapes for over 30 years; and

WHEREAS, in memory and recognition of Audrey Baker’s tremendous contribution to the West Nashville community, it is fitting and proper that the bridge on Georgia Avenue over Richland Creek be named in her honor; and

WHEREAS, Section 13.26.010 of the Metropolitan Code provides that no building or structure of the Metropolitan Government may be named except pursuant to an ordinance duly adopted by the Metropolitan County Council.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the bridge on Georgia Avenue over Richland Creek, as shown on the sketch attached hereto and incorporated herein as “Exhibit A”, is hereby named the “Audrey Baker Memorial Bridge”.

Section2. That the Department of Public Works is directed to erect the proper signage designating the bridge on Georgia Avenue over Richland Creek as “Audrey Baker Memorial Bridge”.

Section 3. This Ordinance shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
