ORDINANCE NO. BL2011-16

An ordinance to amend the Official Street and Alley Acceptance and Maintenance Map for The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County by changing the name of Centennial Place to “Wayne Wise Place” (Proposal No. 2011M-001SR-001).

WHEREAS, Wayne Wise (1949 – 2010) was a lifelong Nashvillian who left a lasting mark on the trucking industry in Nashville and the United States; and

WHEREAS, Wayne Wise was a graduate of Father Ryan High School, and continued his education at UT Nashville; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Wise began his career in the trucking industry in 1971, and started his own trucking company, Expressco, Inc., in 1981 at the age of 32; and

WHEREAS, in 1990, Mr. Wise and his wife, Donna, founded Western Express with an initial fleet of 13 trucks, which grew over the next 20 years to include more than 2,700 trucks, making it one of the twenty largest trucking companies in the country; and

WHEREAS, the Western Express facility is located at 7131 Centennial Place; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of his contributions to the trucking industry and the Nashville business community, it is fitting and proper that Centennial Place be renamed in honor of Mr. Wayne Wise.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Official Street and Alley Acceptance and Maintenance Map for The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, as enacted by Ordinance No. BL2010-829, is hereby amended as follows:

Centennial Place, extending from Centennial Boulevard to its terminus at the John C. Tune Airport property, is hereby renamed “Wayne Wise Place”, all of which is more particularly described by lines, words and figures on the sketch which is attached hereto and made a part of this Ordinance as though copied herein.

Section 2. The Director of the Department of Public Works is hereby authorized and directed, upon the enactment and approval of this Ordinance, to cause said change to be made on said Map as set out in Section 1 of this Ordinance, and to make notation thereon of reference to the date of passage and approval of this amendatory Ordinance.

Section 3. This Ordinance shall take effect immediately after its passage, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
