ORDINANCE NO. BL2011-963

An ordinance naming the bridge on Newsom Station Road over the Harpeth River in honor and memory of Danny Tomlinson.

WHEREAS, 39-year-old Danny Tomlinson lost his life on May 1, 2010, when the vehicle he was riding in was overtaken by the Harpeth River flood waters covering Newsom Station Road; and

WHEREAS, after a massive search effort lasting more than five months, Danny Tomlinson’s body was found in a pile of debris along the Harpeth River; and

WHEREAS, Danny Tomlinson was a graduate of Antioch High School and was an active member of Highland Park Church; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Tomlinson was a true humanitarian, working to make prosthetic limbs for those in need, as well as volunteering as an animal rescuer; and

WHEREAS, Danny is survived by his mother Sherry Wilson, father Mike Wilson, two sisters, Brandee Weidenburner and Chelsea Simmons, and two nephews, Case and Ian; and

WHEREAS, Section 13.26.010 of the Metropolitan Code of Laws provides that no building or structure of the Metropolitan Government may be named except pursuant to an ordinance duly adopted by the Metropolitan County Council; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the bridge on Newsom Station Road over the Harpeth River be named in honor and memory of Danny Tomlinson.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSONCOUNTY:

Section 1. That the bridge on Newsom Station Road over the Harpeth River, as shown on the sketch attached hereto and incorporated herein as “Exhibit A”, is hereby named the “Danny Tomlinson Memorial Bridge”.

Section2. That the Department of Public Works is directed to erect the proper signage designating the bridge on Newsom Station Road over the Harpeth River as “Danny Tomlinson Memorial Bridge”.

Section 3. This Ordinance shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
