ORDINANCE NO. BL2009-458

An ordinance amending Section 1.16.020 of the Metropolitan Code to provide the Sheriff the duty to provide security services at Hospital Authority facilities subject to agreeable terms approved by the Metropolitan Council.

WHEREAS, Section 16.05 of the Metropolitan Charter recognizes the sheriff as an officer of the Metropolitan Government and provides that the Sheriff shall have the duties provided by general law with the exception that the chief of police has the duty of principal conservator of the peace within the area of the Metropolitan Government; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Government desires to expand the duties of the Sheriff to include providing security services at facilities operated by the Metropolitan Hospital Authority (“Authority”) in order to allow for greater efficiency and cost savings to the Authority;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That Section 1.16.020 of the Metropolitan Code is hereby amended by designated the existing section as Subsection A and adding the following as a new Subsection B:

B. Subject to terms agreeable to the sheriff and the Metropolitan Hospital Authority and approved by Resolution of the Metropolitan Council, the sheriff shall provide security services for Hospital Authority facilities.

Section 2. Be it further enacted, that this ordinance shall take effect immediately after its passage.
