An ordinance amending BL2005-582, by transferring the Homelessness Commission from the Department of Social Services to the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency.

Whereas, by Ordinance No. BL2005-582, the Metropolitan Council approved the establishment of a Homelessness Commission; and

Whereas, the Homelessness Commission is currently a part of the Metropolitan Department of Social Services; and

Whereas, it is in the best interest of the Metropolitan Government to transfer the Homelessness Commission to the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency, which has agreed to accept the responsibility to oversee the Homelessness Commission.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:Section 1. That the Metropolitan Council hereby approves an amendment to BL2005-582 by deleting “Metropolitan Department of Social Services” from the introductory sentence of Section 1 and substituting in its place the following language: “the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency,” thereby transferring the Homelessness Commission and its duties and responsibilities to the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency on the effective date of this ordinance.

Section 2. That the Metropolitan Council will continue financial support necessary to administer the Homelessness Commission.

Section 3. That this ordinance shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
