ORDINANCE NO. BL2006-1261

An ordinance amending Chapter 2.44 of the Metropolitan Code of Laws to require the Metropolitan Police Department to provide quarterly and annual crime reports to the Metropolitan Council.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That Chapter 2.44 of the Metropolitan Code of Laws is hereby amended by adding the following new Section 2.44.115:

"2.44.115 Crime reports to be submitted to the metropolitan council.
A. Quarterly report. The police department shall submit a quarterly crime report to the public safety committee of the metropolitan council within thirty (30) days of the end of the months of March, June, September and December, which report shall include, but not be limited to, an update of crimes allegedly committed during the previous quarter within the area of the metropolitan government broken down by type of crime and by police sector.
B. Annual report. On or before January 30 of each year, the police department shall submit an annual crime report to the public safety committee of the metropolitan council, which report shall include, but not be limited to:
1. Crimes allegedly committed during the previous year within the area of the metropolitan government broken down by type of crime, by police sector and by council district.
2. Maps showing crime hotspots within the area of the metropolitan government.
3. City-wide crime figures for each of the previous five years."

Section 2. This Ordinance shall take effect from and after its passage, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.

Mr. President:

I move to amend Ordinance No. BL2006-1261 by amending Section 1 by deleting the phrase "January 30" and substituting in lieu thereof the phrase "March 30".
